OUR STORY

Founded in 2024 by Melody and Doug, 8 Count Country is a vibrant dance community bringing the joy of country swing and line dancing to Fuquay Varina, NC. Both were originally from Florida, when their paths finally crossed and they met in Raleigh in 2021. After months of traveling for workshops and learning from top instructors across the country, they decided to share their passion locally.

Through lessons, workshops, and hosting events featuring national instructors, 8 Count Country has quickly become a hub for fun, connection, and growth in the dance world. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned dancer, everyone is welcome to join the 8 Count Country family and experience the joy of dancing!

DOUG

Co-Owner, Emcee & Dance Instructor

Born and raised in sunny Florida, Doug made the big move to North Carolina in 2021 with one mission: find a new hobby!

That plan took a detour when he met Melody, who introduced him to the world of country dance—and he hasn't looked back since.

What started as a new hobby quickly became a passion and, before long, a way of life. Today, Doug is one of the owners and instructors of 8 Count Country, where he loves helping dancers of all levels build confidence, learn new skills, and have a great time on the dance floor. Whether you need a dance partner, a patient instructor, or just someone to share a laugh with, Doug's your guy.

When he's not teaching, you'll often find Doug traveling the country as both a competitor and an emcee at some of the nation's favorite country dance events. Whether he's stepping onto the competition floor or stepping behind the microphone, Doug thrives on creating an energetic, welcoming atmosphere that brings dancers together.

MELODY

Co-Owner, Event Director & Dance Instructor

Born and raised in Miami, Melody moved to North Carolina in 2006 and quickly embraced the charm of country living.

A lifelong athlete with a heart for dance, her dream came true at 30 when she finally discovered the magic of honky-tonk bars. It was on those hardwood floors where everything changed.

In 2021, she met Doug while dancing downtown, and their shared passion for country dance sparked something extraordinary. Together, they began traveling, learning, and dreaming, eventually founding 8 Count Country.

Today, Melody is more than an instructor—she's on a mission to create spaces where everyone feels welcome to learn, dance, and belong. Whether she's teaching weekly lessons around town, welcoming first-time dancers onto the floor, or pouring her heart into producing 8 Count Country's signature event, The Showdown, her focus is always the same: building a community where people can grow, connect, and have fun.

Melody brings unmatched energy, encouragement, and joy to every class, turning two left feet into confident steps and strangers into friends. Every lesson, every event, and every opportunity to dance is created with intention, and she pours her whole heart into making each experience one that people will remember long after the music ends.
